A spotlight type effect is being created in these next few photos (below) as the first directional light of the day, provided by the Sun, lands directly upon the Red-necked Grebe nest. It is shining between a gap in the trees that are atop the nearby Eastern hillside, while the surrounding of the nest area still remain in shadow. The extreme low angle of view in the first couple of photos is pretty cool too in combination. I like these photos.
I'm a little concerned for this bird as it appears as though it may have sustained some kind of injury to its lower right side. The area is all red and it just doesn't look right to me (as shown in the next four photos, below). I did not notice this at the time the photos were taken..only once I went to process them on the computer at home many days later. The pair of Red-necked Grebes were sharing in the incubation duties, by switching out every so often, at the nest site on this morning.
This is the other Red-necked Grebe of the pair, and something just doesn't look right with it either. I can see in its face (below) that something just isn't quite right.doesn't look like its usual self at all. Concerning.
