Quite the pleasant discovery, for someone as interested in birds as I have been lately, to find a Robin's nest, with two fairly new hatchlings in it, right in the front yard of the house here. I'm not sure what day(s) they hatched on, but I became aware of them at about 4:00 PM on Thursday, July 14th. Naturally I felt compelled to get some photos of them, but this was a bit of tricky situation photo wise. From around the entire perimeter of the tree, in which the birds were housed, there was only one somewhat decent sightline to view the nest from. This sightline was far from perfect though, as one thin branch in particular with about five leaves on the end of it would be ever challenging to work around. Also, another thicker branch caused a bit of trouble for viewing things even a little higher up (the area directly above the nest). You'll see what I'm meaning within the vast majority of the photos. As long as the birds stayed low down within the nest the photos turned out pretty good for the most part. Once they reached up though, and stretched out, for feeding time is when I wasn't very successfully with the photos. The other thing I found to be somewhat challenging to work around, while taking these pictures, was the lighting situation. Most of the earlier photos you'll see within these galleries were taken on bright, sunny, cloudless days, making for harsh tonal/dynamic range..super bright highlights and deep dark shadows, especially when the subject(s) are located deep into a tree right at its trunk/base..quite dark in there.
As always, with every gallery I create on this website, the photos are shown in the same order in which they were captured.

DAY 1 - July 14th
These young birds do have a pretty difficult time staying awake.
Not exactly sure what's going on here (below)..I'm going to assume waste removal..don't need the nest getting all messed up now do we?
The birds are looking pretty scrawny at this point..cute though.
DAY 2 - July 15th
Not great, but you can get a pretty decent view of their little bodies in the next couple of shots (below) as they stretch out somewhat.
